What is Selection Process?
The selection process for the Indian Air Force through AFCAT (Air Force Common Admission Test) typically involves several stages:
AFCAT Written Exam: The first stage is the AFCAT written exam, which assesses candidates’ aptitude in areas such as verbal ability, numerical ability, reasoning, general awareness, and military aptitude. The exam is conducted online and consists of multiple-choice questions.
Engineering Knowledge Test (EKT) (For Technical Branch): Candidates applying for the Technical Branch need to appear for an additional test called the Engineering Knowledge Test (EKT), which focuses on engineering-related topics.
SSB Interview: Candidates who qualify the AFCAT written exam and EKT (if applicable) are shortlisted to appear for the Services Selection Board (SSB) interview. The SSB interview is a comprehensive assessment of candidates’ personality, leadership qualities, communication skills, and suitability for a career as an officer in the Indian Air Force. The SSB interview consists of various stages including intelligence tests, psychological tests, group discussions, and personal interviews.
Medical Examination: Candidates who clear the SSB interview are required to undergo a thorough medical examination to ensure they meet the physical and medical standards set by the Indian Air Force. The medical examination includes tests for vision, hearing, general health, and other physical parameters.
Final Merit List: After successfully completing all the stages of the selection process, candidates are evaluated based on their performance in the AFCAT written exam, EKT (if applicable), SSB interview, and medical examination. A final merit list is prepared, and candidates are recommended for commissioning as officers in the Indian Air Force based on their ranking in the merit list and the availability of vacancies in the respective branches.
